Posting Summary:

Rutgers School of Nursing invites applications for TWO passionate, inspiring and collaborative psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner faculty members for joint appointments with our academic-clinical partner, Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health (RWJBH). These unique positions will consist of 1) teaching 50% time in our entry to Baccalaureate (undergraduate) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Programs and 2) practicing 50% as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in one of our integrated primary care-behavioral health outpatient faculty practices, where you will precept and mentor APRN and interprofessional colleagues. Successful candidates will role model high standards of clinical practice, teaching excellence, and scholarship, and actively participate in professional organizations.

These positions will involve teaching and practicing in both Newark and New Brunswick, NJ. Courses may include Theoretical Foundations of Psychotherapy, Biopsychosocial Assessment and Differential Diagnosis in Advanced Practice Nursing, Principles of Psychopharmacology, and graduate Theory and Practicum courses in Adult and Older Adult and the Family and Child and Adolescent and the Family. The School of Nursing is excited to welcome expertise in specialty areas including (but not limited to) health equity, substance use disorders, veteran health care, LGBTQ+ health, and psychological trauma and treatment, including that among nurses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Envision and teach didactic and clinical courses in psychiatric-mental health across the lifespan.
  • Practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient integrated primary care-behavioral health RWJBH practice 2-3 days/week. Responsibilities may include: Providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, short-term psychotherapy, psychopharmacologic treatment and psychiatric consultations. Some care may be provided through telehealth services.
  • Precept PMHNP and interprofessional students.
  • Collaborate with clinical and community partners to identify and develop clinical placements and DNP project sites.
  • Chair DNP student projects.
  • Participate on school of nursing committees including general faculty and advanced practice committees and faculty governance.
  • Maintain active scholarship.


Minimum Education
· Doctoral degree in nursing or related field required

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner across the lifespan.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in higher education (preferably at the graduate level).
  • A successful track record of scholarship (e.g., publications, national presentations, grant funding).
  • Active participation in community and/or professional organizations.

Additional Qualifications:
Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese or another language a plus.


  • Current licensure or eligibility for RN and Advanced Practice Nurse licensure in New Jersey (with prescriptive privileges).
  • National certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • DEA certification.
  • BLS certification.
